Morphology of γ-aminobutyric acid in solution

γ-aminobutyric acid is an amino acid widely existing in plants, microorganisms and vertebrates, and exists as an important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. In industry, γ-aminobutyric acid we use is a naturally active white crystalline powder with molecular formula C4H9NO2, molecular weight 103.12, CAS No.56-12-2, EINECS No.200-258-6. γ-aminobutyric acid usually exists in solution in the form of negatively charged carboxyl groups and positively charged aminoamphoteric ions. γ-aminobutyric acid is affected by electrostatic interactions between amphoteric ions. It can present both gaseous and solid molecular conformations. Usually, multiple molecular conformations coexist.

γ-aminobutyric acid is a kind of non-protein amino acid with small molecular weight. It is safe to use and has good water solubility and thermal stability. In the current market, we often use it in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and other industries.
