How to prepare γ-aminobutyric acid?

γ-aminobutyric acid is widely used in medicine, health care products, feed and other fields. Moreover, after years of development, we find that it also has great development prospects in functional foods. So, how much do you know about the preparation of γ-aminobutyric acid?

It is understood that at present, γ-aminobutyric acid can be prepared by chemical synthesis method, plant enrichment method, microbial method and others.

First, let’s talk about chemical synthesis. There are many methods. For example, potassium phthalimide and 4-chloroprene are used as raw materials to react at 180℃ to obtain γ-aminobutyric acid through hydrolysis with concentrated sulfuric acid. Alternatively, γ-aminobutyric acid can be obtained by hydrolysis of ammonium bicarbonate and calcium hydroxide using pyrrolidone as raw material. In addition, butyric acid and ammonia can be used as raw materials to perform light reaction under the condition of γ rays, and then γ-aminobutyric acid can be obtained.

The plant enrichment method can be divided into column separation preparation method and solvent extraction method. Column separation preparation method uses the principle that components in different mixtures have different distribution coefficients in the solid-liquid two phases to carry out elution separation and other subsequent processing steps, while solvent extraction method uses water or alcohol as the extraction agent. Then, γ-aminobutyric acid is mentioned into water or alcohol according to the solubility of plants in water or alcohol and distribution system. After repeated filtration and purification, γ-aminobutyric acid can be extracted from plants.

Preparation of γ-aminobutyric acid by microbial fermentation is the growth and propagation of selected, stable, non-toxic and harmless strains. In this process, γ-aminobutyric acid is prepared. This method has relatively stringent requirements on environment and equipment. γ-aminobutyric acid produced by microbial fermentation is a natural food additive.
